Remember Homeless Animals During the Holidays

- December 21, 2006

Although we are all busy with our own lives and animal companions, AVAR encourages you to remember homeless and abandoned animals living in shelters this holiday season. Many of these animals will get less attention this time of year due to hectic staff schedules and will have no special treats, warm blankets or toys to enjoy. Take some time to stop by an animal shelter in your community and drop off some treats or, better yet, spend some time with animals in need. It will be one of the best presents you can give this year.

Also, please remember to protect animals in your care from the cold weather and provide proper shelter, food and water during harsh winter weather. Extreme temperatures can be dangerous for animals who are left outdoors, particularly those who are elderly, ill or compromised in some manner. For animals who are living indoors, remember the holiday season calls for extra precautions due to the abundance of chocolate, tinsel, poinsettias, and other hazards.
